In the fast-paced life of Mumbai, one rarely sees people going out of their way to better the lives of complete strangers. We might help people, offer them directions, even put aside some money for charity frequently, but seldom do we find someone who dedicates a major part of their day towards offering support to the ones in need.
The story of Uday Modi, a resident of Bhayander, is soul-stirring. Possessing a heart of gold, this man’s journey towards social good started with an incident which many of us choose to ignore.
One day, he woke up to a knock on his door, only to find a 70-year-old man asking for help for his sick wife. Disturbed by seeing the old man’s helplessness, Uday wasn’t able to continue with his daily chores. His heart ached and urged him to do something, anything to help the elderly. Along with his wife and teenage children, he began providing food for the elderly.
And now, with persistent efforts and sheer compassion, he is able to feed over 200 elderly people every day.
He has collaborated with local caterers to help cook and pack tiffins for them. In addition, he has managed to get two vans along with four dealer vans, which are needed to deliver tiffins. The funds required to provide for regular food supplies amount to Rs 3 lakh a month.
Professionally, working as an artist, Uday utilizes his income along with support from family and friends to provide for the elderly who have been abandoned by their kids.
His strong resolve is pushing him to continue to do more. He is planning on setting up an old-age home for the ones in need. In order to gather funds to feed more people, he has started a fundraising campaign with Ketto. Please donate generously and help him with his cause.
