“The past few months have been extremely difficult for my little one.
Sejal started schooling last year but due to her medical condition, had to drop out.
Since she got a high fever in December 2022, things have not been the same.
Within a month, doctors diagnosed her with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, which demands immediate cancer therapy.”
Sejal was only 11 months old when my husband abandoned us. Back then, I had no reliable source of income, so we moved back to my parents’ house.
My brother and I run a chaat stall and earn enough to keep our family afloat. My divorce is on the verge of finalization, and I have no regrets. Sejal and I complete each other, and I have vowed to be a mother, a father and a best friend to my daughter.
I began worrying when Sejal wasn't recovering from the fever in December, despite being on medication for an entire month.
I took her to another hospital, wherein they performed more tests. The results came back with low platelets and low blood count. It was cancer.
They provided her with an immediate blood transfusion, and the next day started her cancer therapy. I emptied all my savings to pay for the medical bills, but it wasn’t long until they got over.
Twice a week, I helplessly see my daughter cry as the nurse pricks her little arm with a needle for the treatment. She keeps saying she wants to go back to school, but what can I even do?
About a month ago, the doctors identified a severe infection in her blood and in no time, she was admitted to the ICU.
“Her condition is critical; we need to examine her cancer, and keep an eye on its growth while continuing with the cancer therapy.
These procedures are going to be financially and emotionally exhausting. Sejal is a strong girl, and hopefully, can recover soon”, the doctors affirmed.
The procedures cost an enormous INR 8,50,000.00
Sejal is only four and should be spending her days at preschool instead of at the hospital.
It breaks my heart to see my daughter in this condition, but I am trying my level best to end her suffering.
Somehow, I’ve managed to afford her medicines, tests, diagnosis & therapy sessions. But I’ve run out of funds despite pawning off my gold jewellery and selling our farmland!
