“My Shivadhya is only 1-year-old and has never been able to turn on his stomach, crawl or even laugh freely. Every movement makes him gasp for breath and turn blue in the face. Sometimes, I wonder what I did wrong that my baby is suffering so much. He has to put in so much effort just to breathe. Imagine being born into this world only to fight to survive.” Gauri the mother.

Baby Shivadhya was born to Sumit and Gauri Satpute who are from a village called Supe in Pune district of Maharashtra. Sumit is a farm labourer whilst Gauri is a homemaker. When Gauri was pregnant, one of her scans showed an abnormality with her baby. Doctors confirmed that her baby had a congenital heart condition. The news was shattering to the young parents.

Doctors at Jehangir Hospital, Pune diagnosed baby Shivadhya with various heart complications like Congenital Cyanotic Heart Disease, Tetralogy of Fallots and Ventricular Septal Defect (hole in the heart). Dr. Rajesh Kaushish -Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon has recommended that baby Shivadhya undergo an urgent Total Correction Heart Surgery. The total cost of the surgery including investigations, hospitalisation, surgery and medicines is ₹5,42,000.

Sumit is a farm daily wage labourer with an annual salary of 35,000 rupees. He is unable to afford the cost of this open heart surgery.

“My child is a blessing. We are not educated but we want out precious child to study and become whatever he wants when he grows up. Now, I fear he may not even survive beyond a year. The hospital has been kind enough to give us a concession on the surgery but this amount is also out of reach for me. Please save my child.” Sumit the father.
