Be a Santa for Children in Tribal Areas

Help us in creating 100 Treasure Houses for enhancing creativity, exploration and experimentation of the tribal children from government schools in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Imagine a childhood without education…without books, without the freedom to create and to play… Imagine a childhood filled with the fear of exclusion and loneliness. NEG-FIRE’s unique Treasure Houses aim towards providing a joyful childhood to children from the most marginalised communities of India.

Our Treasure houses are an initiative to ensure that every single child living in the remotest of locations throughout India has access to a place where they can learn, be with other children, instil in themselves values of diversity and have immense self-belief. It is called a ‘Treasure House’ for a reason - a child can come here for a few hours every day and explore treasures of his community, his culture…explore treasures contained within books and art and explore the treasure within.

Our Treasure Houses, present within the village and managed by the community itself, act as a secure space for children from the most marginalised communities of India to facilitate self-exploration and experimentation, with an ultimate aim that children from these communities become creative, confident and collaborative with a positive outlook towards life and towards each other. Each Treasure House comprises of 6 essential features:

1) Library – to enhance reading skills

2) Arts and aesthetics – to enhance creativity and freedom of expression.

3) Exploring indigenous knowledge of the community – to strengthen the knowledge of their culture and mainstreaming it into academic knowledge.

4) Supplementary education classes – to support children who find it difficult to understand school lessons or are unable to comprehend the school language.

5) Khel se Mel (inclusion through play) – to eliminate any feelings of exclusion or inequality present among the children or community and enable them to learn and play together.

6) Expeditions and camping – to create a platform for children to learn teamwork, the spirit of participation and to enhance their leadership skills.

How your donation will be put to use:

We currently have 250 functional Treasure Houses across 456 villages throughout 9 states in India.

Cost of 1 Treasure House:

30,000/-

 Phase 1: (December 2016-January 2017)

Libraries + Supplementary classes (10,000/-) for 100 Treasure Houses

Amount available = 5,00,000 (Our contribution) 

Amount to be raised = 10,00,000 

Phase 2: (March 2017) 

Inputs for arts, aesthetics and play material (Rs.15,000/-) for 100 Treasure Houses 

Amount to be raised = Rs.15,00,000/-
