About the Fundraiser

Incident is the annual cultural festival of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in Surathkal, Karnataka. Incident, being one of India's largest student-run cultural fests, stands high and mighty being bestowed with a crown of ultimate art, culture, and celebration. Incident serves as a launchpad for fresh talents, a host for the most renowned artists, and a one-stop cultural experience.

Having started in the 1980s with a budget of just ₹10,000, Incident has now grown into the second-largest cultural festival in South India and largest in Karnataka. Apart from providing students with large exposure to a lot of fields such as dance, music, fashion, business and all forms of art, Incident has Inci Talks to connect the students with eminent personalities from different walks of life, spanning a wide range of fields and learn their stories and experiences. Students get golden opportunities to showcase and experiment with their talents. Incident is also one of the only two places in Karnataka where Hip Hop International prelims take place. Incident looks past industry barriers and lets students explore all cultures, and even experience different areas of literature. The literary events provide a stage for students to try their hand at spoken, written and creative aspects.

In all, Incident strives to not just provide the students with a break from the usual college life, but also give them an opportunity to experience as well as try their hand at multiple cultural areas. Knowing, learning about and imbibing cultures can be the key to the holistic, overall development of students.

Incident identifies itself with the program ‘i-Care’ (short for Inci Care) through which it gives back to the society. We believe today's young generation is the builders of tomorrow's society. Various initiatives are taken up under i-Care to guide the children of the fishermen along the coast of Surathkal. These initiatives involve preventing the students from dropping out of school, volunteers helping them to excel in academics, providing stationery and also solar lamps to overcome the acute power shortage. Another remarkable initiative of i-Care is "Plastic Recycling", where volunteers collect plastic along the beach and then processed into keychains to be given away as goodies.
