About the Fundraiser

We are raising funds for an organization called the New Ark Mission of India, also known as Home of Hope. Founded in 1998 by Mr. Thomas Raja, lovingly known as Auto Raja, this organization has transformed the lives of countless individuals in and around Bangalore.

The organization has been a sanctuary for the abandoned, dying, homeless, poor, needy and the underprivileged for over 30 years now.

Thomas Raja, the founder, also popularly known as Auto Raja used to drive an auto rickshaw before he started his heart touching ministry of serving the dying and destitute. Raja left school at the age of 8 and grew up to be an alcoholic and a petty criminal, pawning even his mother’s silk sarees and her mangalsutra to fulfill his craving for alcohol. Ostracised by family and society, his Father threw him out of the house and he continued in the streets till he was sent to Central Prison, Chennai.

It was sickness and a near death experience in the dingy confines of the prison that God chose to transform the rogue to into a saint. In an earnest prayer, Raja made a deal with God to forgive him saying if he was released, then, in turn he would lead an honest life and serve his people. God answered his prayer and his parents miraculously bailed him out. When he asked for forgiveness, they gave him Rs 1000 to get a driving license to drive an auto.

While driving his auto, he would often come across those down in the dumps with nowhere to go and nothing to eat. He learnt a few basic first aid skills and started Home for Hope from his small garage. Later he rented a small house to house the people he found on the streets. He began with 13 people in a rented house but today his home is a resident of 800 people from the most inhumane and unhygienic circumstances

Auto Raja has dedicated his life to serving the most vulnerable amongst us.

Over the past 30 years, he has rescued more than 19,000 individuals, helping approximately 1,800 of them reunite with their families. Many of the residents face severe health challenges, including HIV, cancer, TB, and other debilitating conditions.

The residents of Home of Hope are provided not only with food, shelter and clothing but also essential medical care, creating a close -knit community rooted in love and compassion.

However, at the moment the organization is facing a critical financial crisis. With the government halting FCI funds, they urgently need to raise approximately 15 lakhs each month to meet the basic needs of our 800 residents.

The organisation is in constant need of the following items:

General Provisions:

Groceries: Rice, wheat, dal, sugar, cooking oil, spices, fruits, and vegetables.

Toiletries: Essential cleaning and personal care items.

Medicines: General and psychiatric medications, dressing supplies, and IV fluids.

Immediate Needs:

A mini school bus

Stretchers, wheelchairs, and walkers

Freezer boxes

Solar water heaters

Commercial washing machines and power backup generators
