I’ve been volunteering with U&I’s Learning Center, Ashwini Trust, in Bangalore for the past year. The Learning Center meets the academic needs of 57 underprivileged children. Every week day, volunteers like me spend 2.5 hours with the children, helping them with their subjects, teaching them English, and instilling in them a sense of worth and confidence.

These students are from hugely disadvantaged backgrounds - most of them come to the center from neighboring slums. I’ve personally seen how education can be a game changer in their lives. I’ve seen shy and inhibited children not just growing in their knowledge and getting better grades, but also growing in their confidence.

I love that I can #HeroUp and be a role model to these children. Join me in impacting the lives of the next generation.

What is U&I?

We get it. You want to support a worthy social cause, but you’re not sure which organization to trust. We’d like to suggest U&I, an NGO that impacts underprivileged children through education. But we’d also like to suggest that you don’t just take our word for it. Trust the word of thousands of volunteers who are on the ground, seeing first hand just how we’re changing lives together.

Every year, U&I recruits more than one thousand volunteers who invest in the lives of underprivileged children. We’ve been doing this for eight years. These passionate change-makers teach and mentor more than 2000 children across 16 cities in India. Each of our volunteers give 2.5 hours a week to tutor a child at a U&I Learning Center.

In addition to personalized tutoring, we give each student access to reading and computer programs. We organize medical camps and take them for field trips to museums and zoos. We play value games and enjoy craft time with them. We are committed to giving them a holistic education. We are committed to giving them the confidence to live their dreams.

Why Give?

In India today, 56% of children drop out of elementary school. By high school that number rises to an alarming 90%. These students drop out because they can’t cope with the system. Their performance is much below grade level, they lack personalized attention, and don’t have role models. When you donate, U&I can continue to reach disadvantaged children and give them the skills and the opportunities to make something of themselves. Your donation will be used to help students in the academic year 2019-2020.
