I’ve been volunteering with U&I’s Learning Center for the past year. The Learning Center caters to the academic needs of underprivileged children. Volunteers like me spend 2.5 hours twice a week teaching the children English and other subjects. We focus on their wholesome development and conduct library sessions, arts and craft activities, dance and drama and career counseling to help instill confidence and build their sense of worth. 

The students that we teach, come from destitute families, usually from nearby slums. I have had the advantage of seeing first hand how incredibly education has impacted their lives. I’ve not only seen a change in their grades, but also their personalities. Once shy and inhibited students are able to confidently deliver sentences in front of groups. 

I love that I can #HeroUp and be a role model to these children. Join me in impacting the lives of the next generation.

What is U&I?

We understand the skepticism you might face while deciding a worthy organization to donate to when you want to support a social cause. We’d like to suggest U&I, an NGO that impacts disadvantaged children through education. The thousands of volunteers who invest 2.5 hours weekly in the lives of these underprivileged children are an ode to the impact that we are creating together.  

Every year, U&I recruits more than one thousand passionate change-makers who teach and mentor over 2000 children across 20 cities in India. In addition to personalized tutoring, we give each student access to reading and computer programs. We organize medical camps and take them for field trips to museums and zoos. We play value games and enjoy craft time with them. Since the past eight years, we are committed to giving them a holistic education and the confidence to live their dreams.

Why Give?

In India today, 56% of children drop out of elementary school. By high school, that number rises to an alarming 90%. These students drop out because they can’t cope with the system. Their performance is much below grade level, they lack personalized attention, and don’t have role models. When you donate, U&I can continue to reach disadvantaged children and give them the skills and opportunities to make something of themselves. Your donation will be used to help students in the academic year 2020-2021.
