About the Fundraiser

Hi everyone!

I believe that only by doing something for the society one can be called beautiful after all Charity is the true reflection of beauty. I have decided to use this platform to raise funds for Purnata, an Indian Non-profit, and help them in their battle against trafficking.

Human Trafficking (HT) is the fastest growing crime and the 2nd largest illegal trade in the world. It is modern-day slavery with 32 billion USD outlay. In spite of the Govt becoming more serious on this issue and so many NGOs trying to address this issue we still find that Human Trafficking is growing leaps and bounds.

Trafficking, in essence, is a lucrative multi-billion dollar business but more a business which has criminal effects on the victims of trafficking. When you look at Human Trafficking from the standpoint of a business, it’s all about demand and supply. Usually, the destination is where the demand is. The source is where the supply is. Between the source and destination are the transit routes where also abuse happens.

PURNATA, meaning ‘completion’ or ‘wholeness’ began work in April 2014 & is registered as a Society & Trust under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 & Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950.

Prevention is critical to end trafficking or at least make a dent in it. Purnata Rescues, Rehabilitates and Reintegrates survivors of Human Trafficking in Mumbai and West Bengal, with a major focus on prevention at source, transit, and destination.

Research conducted by Purnata indicated North 24 Parganas as the major source from where girls are being trafficked into Mumbai. Purnata has begun preventive work in this district, particularly in Barasat and Basirhat. We intend to start a Hub in Barasat town comprising of a training center where women/girls will be trained and placed in jobs that earn them more than a minimum wage and give them dignity. Our main objective is to protect and restore survivors to a life of dignity, purpose and economic independence while providing holistic, integrated livelihoods options.

Broad Objectives

1. That women from backgrounds of Commercial Sexual Exploitation and trafficking, gain a level of healing, as well as social, personal, emotional and livelihood skills that enable them to take up employment of their choice and to be able to live within the community with dignity.

2. Education promotes learning opportunities through skill development and confidence building, including digital literacy. At the end of the training period, it will lead to better livelihood opportunities and improved income & better living.

3. Education leads to better livelihood opportunities and improved income & better living for these brave women.
