Help us raise funds for a recycled shipping container Medical Clinic for Tribals of Marcha in Jharkhand
St. Luke's Health & Wellness Clinic has been started by my sister Dr. Margaret Topno, MBBS, M.S. (General Surgery). She left the cushy city life to serve the poor tribals in Marcha Village in Jharkhand. She herself was born there but was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to study in the Kochi city in Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Katari Bagh and obtain her medical degrees from JIPMER, Puducherry. She worked in various private hospitals before joining the Indian Army Medical Corps for a short service commission. After finishing her stint with the Indian Army she taught Surgery in Medical Colleges MGM Kamothe and AIMST in Malaysia. However, her dream had always been to return to her roots and give back to the community what she had gained. So here she is, running the clinic by herself in the premises of our ancestral mud house. Infrastructure support is very poor and she has had to pour in her life savings in electrifying the old house with solar power, to tile the outside area and to purchase basic equipment and medicines to start a clinic right outside the house. A source for clean water has still to be acquired.
She is treating the poor tribals at very nominal charges (free for those who cannot afford to pay) which sometimes hardly covers the cost of medicines dispensed. However, if a proper premises for the clinic can be established then she can treat a greater number of patients and perform small procedures which can help to offset the cost of running the clinic. The nearest decent hospital would be in Ranchi which is some 64kms away. So the goal is to purchase a recycled shipping container modified to a small clinic along with some basic equipment as follows:
1. Modified recycled shipping container for clinic – INR 3,75,000
2. Clinic electrification with solar hybrid – INR 96,000
3. Refrigerator for injections and medicines – INR 18,500
4. Borewell with solar pumping unit – INR 3,50,000
5. Basic Laboratory – INR 1,00,000
6. Generic medicine monthly supply – INR 1,00,000
7. Dressing material monthly supply – INR 50,000
8. Portable ultrasound scanner – INR 1,50,000
9. Hemolyzer Unit – INR 1,00,000
10. X-ray unit plus supplies – INR 1,00,000
So I appeal to all friends, relatives, neighbours, colleagues, friends of friends, well wishers, anyone who wants to do good - to dig deep and donate generously to this cause ! God Bless You all :-)
