About the Fundraiser

Hi, I am Arya Shankar, 9th-grade student of Inventure Academy, raising funds for Government Higher Primary School, Ramagondanahalli (GHPS, RGHalli).

About My Fundraiser

Earlier this year, Inventure Academy, ranked amongst India’s top three schools,  signed an MoU with the Department of Public Instruction, Government of Karnataka, to bring quality education to the students of Government Higher Primary School (GHPS), Ramagondanahalli. Working in partnership with Whitefield Ready, TeachForIndia and other NGOs, our aim is to collectively make GHPS a model English medium Government School. This unique collaboration was set up to create a blueprint for a scalable  PPP (public-private partnership) model as an open resource for anyone who would like to adopt and/or work on improving the quality of learning outcomes in government schools.

Over the next five years, we aim to strengthen classroom pedagogy and improve the quality of learning at GHPS by making learning engaging and experiential. We have started one additional section for Grades 1 and 6 with new admissions, and have hired four full-time professionally trained teachers with teaching experience in government schools to teach these classes in English. Going forward, we plan to hire more teachers to expand the English medium vertical all the way from Grades 1 to 7.

We are using Inventure’s proprietary tried and tested Theme-based curriculum for Grades 1 to 5 to nurture a child’s innate curiosity and foster self-directed learning. Whitefield Ready has engaged with Enabling Leadership to run the Just For Kicks Football coaching program at the school. We will also hire a dedicated sports coach by December 2019 to run a full-time sports integrated learning program to build rigor and team-building among government school children.

We are looking to raise a total of INR 50 lakhs towards our efforts at GHPS, including to cover teachers’ salaries, infrastructure and maintenance, and learning resources. Our student fundraising team for our annual musical production (‘The Road Not Taken’) is spearheading this effort and has already raised INR 13 lakhs through sponsorships. We have raised INR 6 lakhs through the sale of donor passes and hope to crowdsource the remaining amount. We look forward to generous contributions from the public.

The measure of success at Inventure is to enable every student to excel in academics, in one chosen co-curricular activity and be prepared for life. Inventure is creating thousands of change-makers through their truly innovative homegrown musical productions, Community Outreach, Youth Parliament, Our Voice Platform, Changemaker Program & Challenge which teach children to be advocates of positive change for causes they believe in/problems they want to solve, including child safety & cyber policy, Bangalore’s lakes, and National Education Policy.

About Government Higher Primary School (GHPS), Ramagondanahalli

GHPS Ramagondanahalli is a public institution of education and learning, set up by the Government of Karnataka, under South IV Block of Urban Bengaluru district. Privileged to be located in an accessible central location on the Varthur Main Road, the school is surrounded by high rise apartment buildings and posh residential colonies. With such developments in the area over the last few decades, there has been an enormous influx of migrant population that works as cooks, household help, drivers and more. The school, therefore, attracts a lot of children from this migrant neighboring community.

About our partners

Whitefield Ready is a group of community volunteers from Whitefield, Bengaluru who support and implement the program on the ground at GHPS Ramagondanahalli.

100 Books, a special reading initiative, that has been very helpful in building English comprehension skills for children in the early grades. Each student gets a personal coach (volunteers form the Whitefield community) who helps children with guided reading, aiming to reach a score of reading 100 books by the time they complete Grade 5.

TeachForIndia: Two full-time Teach for India fellows have helped set up English medium sections for Grades 3 and 4. Both TFI fellows are also homeroom teachers for their respective classes and will be working at the Ramagondanahalli School as part of their teaching fellowship for two years.

Innovation and Science Promotion Foundation is partnering with us to bring in their expertise in building low-cost high impact models for hands-on learning in Science.

Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts is supporting our efforts with music training at GHPS. In early November, the choir from Grades 4 and 5 students were trained by Music Basti (music chapter run by Enabling Leadership) and performed at the Music Basti Concert. Sarani Dance Academy is running after school and Saturday dance classes for the students.
